Will a PU Tube produce odor during use?

Odor emission of PU Tube in service depends mainly on raw material quality, age of the tube, operating ambient temperature and aging status. Authentic high-quality PU Tube only releases controllable short-lived mild odor, while continuous pungent odor only occurs in inferior tubes or extreme working conditions. Odor performance can be categorized into four scenarios: brand-new tubes, normal operation, high-temperature aging and low-grade recycled-material tubes.

A brand-new genuine PU Tube made of virgin raw materials retains a very faint inherent resin odor after production. The smell is non-irritating, non-toxic and non-corrosive, and is not hazardous volatile gas. This odor comes from trace residual raw material volatiles formed during high-temperature extrusion and molding rather than harmful chemical decomposition. In well-ventilated workshops or indoor settings, the residual smell evaporates fully within 3 to 15 days of continuous ventilation. No odor will form in subsequent long-term use and it causes no harm to human operators, equipment or conveyed media, so it can be safely applied in conventional industrial and civil scenarios.

Qualified PU Tube produces no odor during normal room-temperature operation. Polyurethane features stable chemical properties and does not decompose or release volatile substances at room temperature. Its material structure remains stable without releasing odorous or harmful gas molecules. No smell appears whether the tube stays static or works dynamically for air, water and low-pressure medium transmission. It suits closed workshops, equipment interiors and indoor civil environments with strict odor requirements.

PU Tube releases slight odor under high temperature, sun exposure and aging conditions. When ambient temperature is excessively high or the tube oxidizes and degrades gradually under prolonged sunlight, polyurethane molecules experience slow minor volatilization and produce faint plastic odor. High-quality modified high-temperature-resistant PU Tube generates barely perceptible odor under heat. Ordinary PU Tube releases slightly more noticeable smell in environments above 60℃, yet no toxic gas is discharged. If the tube ages severely and becomes powdery, odor intensifies moderately. At this point the tube approaches failure and replacement is recommended promptly.

Low-grade recycled PU Tube is the primary source of strong odor. Low-cost PU Tube on the market is reprocessed from waste polyurethane and scrap plastics with complex compositions and numerous impurities. Large quantities of additives and stabilizers are added during manufacturing. Such tubes have strong pungent plastic odor and chemical stench right out of production, which becomes especially obvious in enclosed spaces. The odor cannot fade away quickly and keeps releasing unpleasant volatiles during service. Apart from polluting the working environment, some volatiles from poor-quality tubes may harm human health. They are forbidden for food, medical and enclosed living or office applications.

To sum up, authentic PU Tube only has transient mild odor at the initial stage and remains odor-free throughout service. Odor problems only occur in inferior tubes or extreme aging working conditions. Purchasing regular certified products and adopting proper operational protection can fully avoid odor troubles.
