Whether a Plastic Reinforced Hose is prone to aging mainly depends on its material and service environment. Ordinary materials are relatively easy to age under harsh conditions, but selecting the right material and taking proper protective measures can significantly slow down the aging process.
There are three core causes of aging: First, long-term exposure to sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) rays will damage the polymer structure of the hose, causing the outer layer to harden and crack. Second, contact with high-temperature environments, such as being near heat sources or conveying high-temperature media, which accelerates material decomposition and reduces flexibility. Third, frequent contact with oil-based or corrosive media, or long-term use in humid environments, which gradually erodes the hose material, leading to aging phenomena such as discoloration and stickiness.
Different materials have obvious differences in anti-aging performance. Common PVC Plastic Reinforced Hoses have weak anti-aging properties, and generally show aging signs after 1-2 years of long-term outdoor use. In contrast, PE or PP plastic-reinforced hoses with added UV stabilizers have stronger UV resistance and weather resistance, and their outdoor service life can be extended to 3-5 years.
The methods to delay aging are simple: First, avoid long-term exposure of the hose to sunlight. When used outdoors, a sunshade cover can be put on the hose, or a UV-resistant material can be selected. Second, keep the hose away from heat sources and do not convey media that exceed the maximum temperature limit of the material. Third, avoid heavy pressure and bending when storing the hose; place it in a cool and dry place, and clean residual media on the surface when not in use to prevent corrosion. In addition, check the appearance of the hose regularly. If slight aging (such as surface brittleness) is found, replace the hose in time to avoid cracking and leakage caused by aging.
